The Holy Face or Mandalyion. According to Archive of Oncology, Serbia, "Among numerous Serbian icons of Middle Ages, which could be found in church treasuries of the East and West, the oldest one, and not very familiar to us, is the icon of Christ's face on the handkerchief (Mandylion) that has been kept in a French town of Laon for more then seven centuries." As a result, the icon is sometimes called by another name: The Holy Face of Laon-Mandylion.
St. Nicolaus of Myra icon is named for St. Nicolaus, bishop of Myra, Lycia, a provincial capital in Asia Minor, in the fourth century. He is the patron of Russia and Greece but not much is known about his life. Supposedly it was Dutch Protestants who were responsible for transforming St. Nicolaus into "Santa Claus". In Holland today it is still St. Nicolaus who delivers presents to deserving children. He died on December 6, 345 or 352.
“Our Lady of Providence with Healing Herbs of the Pacific Northwest” is a round icon with the herbs inscribed and lightly colored in the raised gold edge.
Christ, with the peace tablet, is the Sacred Heart (which shines through his flesh and garment). This icon was written for the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit of Providence Portland Medical Center in Oregon. There are three herbs inscribed and colored on the bottom of the Sacred Heart that were used at various times in treating heart ailments—digitalis, nettles and olive oil.
